Are you interested in an Internship in a dynamic international environment?  Allied Air Command (AIRCOM) located in Ramstein, Germany is looking for a bright, motivated university student or recent graduate to intern for six months in the Military Partnership and Cooperation Branch of the A9/Partnerships Division. 

AIRCOM A9 Division is responsible for the HQ’s relationships with 35 Partners Nations (PN) and for staff processes on Civilian and Military Cooperation (CIMIC). Daily activity consists in planning and coordinating partnerships activities such as the Mobile Training Teams (MTTs) and supporting the Operational Capability Concept Evaluation & Feedback (OCC EF) program. A9 activity contributes to the Cooperative Security, which is one NATO’s core tasks.

Internship activities and achievements:

The intern will assist in the monitoring and reporting on the Air military capabilities of NATO Partner Nations, contributing to the development and delivery of NATO Air related training (such a Mobile Training teams) and capability assessment programs (such as OCC-EF program) in order to support both HQ AIRCOM and NATO’s strategic partnership objectives.  Some activities may include:

  • Drafting reports following participation in conferences, meetings and workshops devoted to Military Partnerships.
  • Providing assistance with the development, conduct and maintenance of training courses when required.
  • Participating in the preparation of high-level events such as visits of foreign delegations and exercises.
  • Developing relationships and track the continuity of objectives between HQ AIRCOM and Higher HQs.
  • Tracking reports from SHAPE and JFCs pertaining to Partnership’s evolution.

The intern will have the opportunity to engage with multi-national military teams to plan and execute AIRCOM’s MTT program across all our Partner Nations, to deliver Point Papers, memos and various support documents related to AIRCOM events and to generate a greater understanding of current NATO affairs, and draw conclusions relevant to NATO partnerships.

Eligibility requirements:

Nationality: Must be a citizen of a NATO member country.

Language: Fluent in English and another NATO language.

Education: Open to current students (successfully completed at least two years of university and enrolled in a third year) or recent graduates (degree obtained within the last 18 months) in international relations or political studies.

Candidate should have a basic grasp of world politics and notions of international diplomacy,

- should understand the basic principles of NATO in both its military and political roles,

- should have the ability to use common Microsoft IT systems,

- should have presentation competencies to deliver briefs in English,

- should have good analytical skills.

Additional Information:

The AIRCOM Internship duration is six months. Interns will receive a monthly lump sum of € 1411.81 Euro (figure based on 2025 pay scale) and reimbursement of travel to/from HQ AIRCOM at the start/end of the internship.  The intern is responsible to declare this income to the relevant tax authorities as appropriate.  Arrangements for travel, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern. Interns may receive emoluments from outside sources (such as scholarships or grants) during their internship. Interns are required to have their own social insurance coverage, including healthcare, on joining HQ AIRCOM.

Participation in an internship is subject to receipt of NATO security clearance from the intern’s national authorities. Interns may join HQ AIRCOM only after HQ AIRCOM has obtained the necessary clearance, which can take 6 months on average, or longer.
