About the job:
Based in The Hague, Netherlands you will join the Agency as we embark on a journey to transform our services to support NATO’s Digital Endeavour. You will join The Joint Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Centre (JISRC). JISRC’s vision is to assure information superiority for NATO. Its Mission is to deliver, support and protect valued ISR capabilities, expertise and services and to maximise operational effectiveness for NATO through a wide range of coherent JISR services, supported by well-trained, highly knowledgeable and uniquely experienced staff, in four key JISR domains: Intelligence Applications, Operational ISR Support, Electronic Warfare/Surveillance Services and Geospatial/Meteorological/Oceanographic Information Services. JISRC is responsible for the full lifecycle of its services.
This position will fall under the supervision of the GeoMetOc services Branch.
We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic IT Engineer (GIS) who will take on the likes of the following roles and responsibilities:
- Geospatial Data Production Environment Management – Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in maintaining and improving the geospatial data production framework, ensuring seamless operations within NATO’s mission.
- Hybrid IT Infrastructure Design and Implementation – Support the design, testing, and implementation of a hybrid geospatial data production environment (public cloud and on-premise) to optimize functionality and efficiency.
- Security and Compliance – Assess security requirements and implement solutions to adapt the security posture of the GIS environment, ensuring compliance with NATO regulations.
- Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Activities – Perform daily monitoring and maintenance of IT platforms, including software and hardware updates, system performance checks, cost analysis, and user access management.
- Team Leadership and Training Support – Provide management and technical guidance to personnel, support the development of junior staff, and coordinate GIS training efforts to ensure operational excellence.

About you:
The valuable knowledge and experience that you bring to this role are:
- Bachelor’s degree at a nationally recognised/certified University in the area of Geospatial Sciences or related field and 2 years post-related experience. Alternatively, the lack of a university degree may be compensated by the demonstration of a candidate’s particular abilities or experience that is/are of interest to NCI Agency, that is, at least 6 years extensive and progressive expertise in duties related to the function of the post;
- IT Infrastructure & Systems Management – At least 3 years of professional experience in managing, configuring, and maintaining physical and virtual IT equipment, including networking, storage, computing, and software/hardware maintenance in a multi-user environment.
- Geospatial & Complex IT Architecture Design – At least 2 years of experience in supporting complex IT solution architecture design, preferably in a geospatial data environment, with deep technical knowledge of file processing and performance optimization.
- System Administration & Security Expertise – Expert-level experience in Microsoft Windows system management, with basic Linux/Unix understanding, and a thorough grasp of security requirements and solutions for sensitive IT environments.
- Virtualized IT Platforms & Cloud Solutions – Strong understanding of virtualized IT platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure, with at least one year of practical management experience in such environments.
- Team Leadership & Multinational Collaboration – At least 3 years of professional experience in technical staff supervision, with demonstrated ability to integrate and collaborate within multinational teams and effectively manage workloads.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication and presentation skills.
